Philosophy of Teaching

As I become an elementary teacher, my philosophy is a clear way of expressing what I believe my classroom will be surrounded with and how I will teach my students. It helps me as a teacher stay focused on my vision.

The biggest concept I take away as a teacher is nurturing and being able to give my students the confidence to be great. I plan on doing this thing with hands-on experiences, having students express themselves, and just having fun! Kids learn the most when they are playing, and I want to bring more play back into the classroom. I want to promote learning through play. I am committed to my students and focus on what is best for them.

I believe in being able to assess kids in a fun and enjoyable way. My goal as a teacher is to make sure my students are learning things that are meaningful, engaging, and purposeful. I am always looking for ways to improve myself to be able to give my students the best and for them to be successful in the future. Creating a safe space for my students to be able to express themselves is important to me.

I have always been big on building relationships with students. I believe that having relationships with my students plays a big impact on the environment and structure of the classroom. Not only with my students but with parents as well. Parent-teacher communication is important to me and doing what's best for my students. I want to be the best teacher I can be for my students' individual needs. I want my students to leave my classroom with as much confidence to be great and that they are loved, cared for, and that I believe in them.

  1. Cute Blog Page! Confidence is such an important skill for them, even for highschoolers, at some point check on your students who might need confidence skills or tools. This can be as simple as complementing & giving affirmations on who they are. Students learn from people they like, so relationships are high priority :) Good luck, it sounds like you'll be great.

  2. This is the first time that I write my philosophy of teaching. While I was writing about it, I thought as you that this will help me to stay focused on my goals as a teacher. Also, I believe that play-based learning has many benefits in children's development. In addition, I believe that play gives that confidence that you mentioned. Having a play-based learning environment gives children the opportunity to express themselves.

  3. Hi, Carissa!
I enjoyed reading your Philosophy of Teaching. I noticed that you hope to incorporate fun into the classroom and I actually am looking into trying to bring that into my future class. This semester I enrolled into a play education class because it seemed so interesting and fun to bring something more exciting and engaging into the classroom. Creating that fun and happy environment for students will surely help in creating lasting relationship as they will be more inclined to trust you.
